The Cacao elixir that led to my most epic orgasm yet

I didn’t know it at the time, but the cacao ceremony would lead to the most embodied sex of my life... and a five minute orgasm. 🤯 10/10, highly recommend.

Sex and Style is written by me, Certified Sexologist and Somatic Sex Coach Sarah Ward. This is intended as general advice. If you’d like a personalized guidance, it would be a pleasure to hold space for you in a complimentary discovery session to support you where you are.

When I was a teenager, the movie Chocolat starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp came out. I was enamored.

Chocolate is toted as the elixir of the gods. In the movie, Vianne Roche moves to a small village in the South of France during Lent — a season of abstinence — and opens up a polarizing chocolaterie.

The timing couldn’t be more perfectly imperfect.

Vianne follows a 2000 year-old Mayan recipe handed down by her father, using unrefined cacao nibs to awaken dormant desires.

From the pulpit at Mass, the village priest praises a life of denial:

Deny your urges.
Starve your pleasures.
Deny your hunger.

He urges his parishioners not to support the chocolaterie (which they do in secret anyway); chocolate is dangerous and drives people to a life of sin.

The message mirrors what we’ve been taught by religion throughout the ages.

Distrust your desires.
Cleave to purity.
Abstinence will save you.
Your body is something to suppress.

Unless, of course, the intent is to procreate, then it’s allowed. But don’t enjoy yourself too much.

If you’ve been following along at Sex and Style, this is advice we turn on its head.

Cacao is an ancient aphrodisiac with earthy, Tauran energy.

This was the magic I stepped into when I first received ceremonial cacao in Costa Rica with a hundred other sex witches. The medicine of cacao began to work its gentle magic on me, initiating me into deeper pleasure, coaxing me out of my shell.

Early one more morning, decked out in eco-glitter, we gathered in a circle and drank ceremonial cacao.

Sasha Ostara
, the Mexicana Priestess guiding the ritual, invited women and people of color to form an inner circle. It was an honor to be among them.

She spoke of how this ancient wisdom has been passed on from the ancestors and we were entrusted as its stewards.

Later, we did a silent sex magic experience on the beach with our High Priestess Layla Martin guiding us through the steps over the headsets we wore.

As I got on my knees in a shallow tide pool and undulated my spine
