For me as a man - I'm have a tendency to hoard things in the garage. Old tools, motorcycles, four wheelers that have passed the original point of use and no longer bring joy because they are taking up valuable space that I could be using to create something else. Maybe it's time to have a yard sale.
That makes perfect sense! Those sound like things that are hard to come by. This time of year is so ideal for a yard sale.
Here's an invitation: if you were try on the idea of letting some of that go, what space would emerge in you? How does it feel to release the old tools, motorcycles, and four wheelers?
I live in a Ford E150 van and I still have to take everything out and reassess what stays and what goes. The process is ongoing! I have a storage shed in Mount Shasta with things I brought from Colorado but don’t have room to put in the van. When I return in May I will begin to empty that shed, and close another door on my past.
Unfortunately you can’t have a yard sale at a storage shed unit. It’s going to be a slower process than I’d like to imagine. guess I just need to settle in to my strong gravity, take my time, process everything I need to process, let go let go let go let go…
Sarah - In the four years following my divorce, I moved five times, each time into a smaller place. Through necessity, I divested either through trash, donation, or gifting nearly every material possession I had accumulated over the term of my 25-year relationship. It was hard - everything had a memory attached to it - even though each piece represented a pixel of a life that no longer existed. Today, my possessions consist of a core collection of basic clothing and a few electronics - all of which can fit into the back of a Jeep Wrangler. I spend equal amounts of time in the city and in the sticks, so my clothing has to be adaptable. Style doesn’t have to be expensive. It doesn’t require logos. The jacket, jeans, and T-shirt you wear in your photo can fit into any number of settings for a male or female. Loss or change is destabilizing. Adopting a framework based on living simply can be stabilizing.

“Ghosts in the closet” is a metaphor I didn’t know I needed.
Jeffrey, thank you — it’s a pleasure to have you here.

You are just the gift that keeps on giving.
