“Woman, keep your sensuality alive. Follow what sets you on fire and flames your spirit. Your s*xuality is your life force power. ... the living pulse of life; it's pure creative energy.” - Tara Isis Gerris
I learned so much! So many pieces of this I’m just in love with.
Speaking of vocalizing, I have a vocal block that I’ve been working through with my therapist. I am unable to create my own sound. Nothing comes out -my throat grips and won’t allow anything in or out. I love that through dance, people can use sound to create a feedback loop of sorts with one another. Since dancing is something that I love, and I’m trying to get back into maybe it could be a safe space for me to explore some shouts or whatever needs to surface.
Thanks for sharing your dance clip. I want to see more!
Nicole, thank you for chiming in, I’m so thrilled to hear how it resonated with you. This is a fascinating piece about the blockage in your throat. You may also be familiar that this is the area of the fifth chakra as well which governs self expression. Men characteristically are quite open here, no surprise when we think of how our culture was built with men in mind. I wonder what your body mind is telling you through this grip that you experience. Is it all the time? Or just sometimes? I wonder if you could try to make a “haaaa” audible breath sound on your exhale, just start small and build up from there. I would invite you to sit with this tightness, with the sound that is withheld and see what comes up. See if you can befriend this part of you. See if it shows something to you. Would love to hear how you work with this tender piece that has risen to your surface! Thank you for your voice here.
As for more flamenco, here is a full performance from 2018 in Vancouver, Canada! It’s the performance that earned me my flamenco name! https://youtu.be/Blg-QPM9EGw
